Remote NDIS Support Coordination: How It Works and Who It's For

You don't need an in-person coordinator to get great Support Coordination. Here's how remote NDIS Support Coordination works and whether it might be the right fit for you.

When people think about Support Coordination, they often picture face-to-face meetings. But the reality is that a large number of NDIS participants receive excellent Support Coordination entirely remotely — by phone and video — and wouldn't have it any other way.

Here's how remote Support Coordination works, who it suits, and what to look for in a remote coordinator.

What Is Remote Support Coordination?

Remote Support Coordination is exactly what it sounds like — your coordinator works with you via phone and video call rather than meeting in person. Everything a coordinator does in person can be done remotely: reviewing your plan, connecting you with providers, attending meetings on your behalf, and being available when you need them.

The NDIS has no requirement that Support Coordination be delivered in person, and many of the most experienced coordinators work remotely with participants across multiple states.

Who Is Remote Support Coordination Good For?

Remote coordination works well for participants who:

  • Live in areas with limited local Support Coordination options
  • Have difficulty travelling to appointments
  • Prefer the flexibility of phone or video communication
  • Want access to a coordinator with specific expertise, regardless of location
  • Are comfortable with technology and prefer efficient, flexible communication

What to Look for in a Remote Coordinator

Genuine responsiveness. Does your coordinator return calls and messages promptly? Remote coordination lives and dies on communication.

Clear systems. A good remote coordinator has clear processes for onboarding you, reviewing your plan, and keeping track of your supports — so nothing slips through the cracks.

Experience with your needs. Remote coordination doesn't mean generic coordination. Look for someone with relevant experience in your disability type and complexity of needs.

Low caseload. A coordinator managing too many participants at once simply won't have the capacity to give your situation the attention it deserves.
